My name is John and over the years of traveling with and without the family I have compiled many tips for traveling. The goal of this website is mainly to help families travel more, to see the country and the world. Alone I have traveled around much of the United States for work. Married, my wife and I loved to travel. Between the both of us we have been to countries with ancient history like Greece, exotic islands like Tahiti, and our neighboring countries like Mexico.
Then came the children and travel seemed to stop. Of course we had to visit Mickey in Disney and Elmo in Sesame Place, but I am talking about travel that may or may not include a TV character and perhaps where English isn’t the language of choice. By the time the third little one was born, buying plane tickets for 5 was becoming less of a possibility and more of a dream. Unless we sold the house and traveled the world.
Actually, my wife thought that was a great idea! She was tired of the visiting the Amish in Pennsylvania (We live nearby in Long Island, New York) and has a general rule of not visiting the same place twice. So with her typical obsessive compulsive flair she woke up one morning and said “We are going to Paris!” and off she went to the post office (no, not the real estate office) to get passport applications. Within hours we had our photos taken, our 5 applications filled out, and the applications submitted. Plane tickets were purchased within a day and hotel reservations were made just as fast. Luckily it all worked out, our mortgage was even paid that month!
That one decision turned the family back into a family of travelers that would rather take the “road to Negril” in Jamaica than the turnpike to the shore in Jersey. We have vowed to take at least one large trip a year or at least every other year alternating with someplace a little closer. Last year Paris, France. This year was Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Of course other trips in between will happen also and the more we can travel, the better.
With this site I will share what we have learned when traveling. I will provide you with tips on traveling with families. I’ll tell you about places to go and things to do when you get there. I’ll share what I learned about how to travel easier, cheaper, and with less “fighting” from those little people in the back, and you’ll here the horror stories from the family as well.
I’ll tell you about all our adventures, what we learned, and show you pictures (no, not hundreds, just one or two from each place, your not family… yet!) from where we have been.
If you like what you see, subscribe to our RSS feed and/or newsletter so you can see new postings as I post them. Share the site with friends and relatives. Most of all, please please please comment on posts and write me to let me know what you like and don’t like along with any suggestions you may have to make the site more helpful to you and your family.
