According the AP out of London, British Airways is now charging for advanced seat selection. Passangers wishing to choose thier seat prior to 24 hours before departure will pay a fee for the priviledge (10 pounds - currently $16). Longer flights will charge more (20 Pounds - currently $35) and if you choose an exit row you will be charged even more (50 pounds). Additional fees apply to business class (short flights 20 pounds and long flights 60 pounds).

So passangers can now only select a seat within 24 hours of departure. From 24 hours to 355 days prior to a flight you will be charged. You can not select a seat past 355 days from departure.

This policy is effective October 7, 2009

Is this now going to be a trend in the airline industry? I would think so, they are always trying to figure out ways to charge more. Headphones,
